Fermi ’ s golden rule in a mesoscopic metal ring

چکیده
We examine the time-dependent non-equilibrium current in a mesoscopic metal ring threaded by a static magnetic flux φ that is generated by a time-dependent electric field oscillating with frequency ω. We show that in quadratic order in the field there are three fundamentally different contributions to the current. (a) A time-independent contribution which can be obtained from a thermodynamic derivative. (b) A term increasing linearly in time that can be understood in terms of Fermi’s golden rule. The derivation of this term requires a careful treatment of the infinitesimal imaginary parts that are added to the real frequency ω when the electric field is adiabatically switched on. (c) Finally, there is also a time-dependent current oscillating with frequency 2ω. We suggest an experiment to test our results.

Relaxation and Thermal Conductivity of Hot and Thermal Quasiparticles and Fermi Liquid Interactions in d-wave Superconductors
In this paper, we calculate theoretically the relaxation rates of hot, thermal and antinodal quasiparticles by using Fermi’s golden rule. The transition probabilities at low temperatures express in terms of Bogoliubov coefficients, singlet and triplet scattering amplitudes and dimensionless Landau parameters. The values of Landau parameters may be determined by comparison with the experimental ...
متن کاملA Fermi Golden Rule for Quantum Graphs
We present a Fermi golden rule giving rates of decay of states obtained by perturbing embedded eigenvalues of a quantum graph. To illustrate the procedure in a notationally simpler setting we first describe a Fermi golden rule for boundary value problems on surfaces with constant curvature cusps. We also provide a resonance existence result which is uniform on compact sets of energies and metri...
متن کاملScreening of persistent currents in mesoscopic metal rings
The effect of the Coulomb-interaction on persistent currents in disordered mesoscopic metal rings threaded by a magnetic flux φ is studied numerically. We use the simplest form of self-consistent Hartree theory, where the spatial variations of the self-consistent Hartree potential are ignored. In this approximation the self-consistent Hartree energies are simply obtained by diagonalizing the no...
متن کاملReflections on the Application of the Golden Rule of Ethics in the Holy Quran
The golden rule of ethics has various formations and one of the most common ones says: "whatever you like for yourself like it for others too and whatever you do not like for yourself do not like it for others, too." The golden rule has been discussed in most of the religions including Abrahamic Religions. There are numerous narrations with the concept of golden rule but in the Holy Quran, it h...
متن کاملPersia and the Golden Rule
My paper has two parts. First, I talk about the golden rule. After introducing the rule and its global importance, I explain why many scholars dismiss it as a vague proverb that leads to absurdities when we try to formulate it clearly. I defend the golden rule against such objections. Second, I talk about the golden rule in Persia and Islam; I consider Persian sources (Muslim and non-Muslim) an...
